Step back in time and get into the full swing of 1920’s America with your own ‘Prohibition’ Christmas party 2012 and let your guests in on a ‘top secret’ that breaks all the party rules. 

Remember, Bootleggers transport moonshine, Speakeasies fill the underground and crime families may control it all … but secrecy is the name of the game!

A stunning backdrop of New York City sets the scene with a selection of features that will make your evening a truly authentic experience.

Perhaps your guests would like to make their way to a ‘Moonshine’ reception, where cigarette girls circulate with teacups of forbidden drinking pleasures?  Maybe a live jazz band can set the mood for you?

Amidst the ambience of oil lamps, guests will enjoy a delicious three course meal.  From then on, you can take your party ‘up tempo’ with your choice of after-dinner performance.  Maybe a staged act from unruly Gangsters fits the bill?  Or perhaps the classic dance routines of beautiful Flapper Girls will be all that it takes to get your arms flapping and feet tapping on the dance floor?

venue description

The Basement is a multi-use, unique and atmospheric space at The Argus Lofts in Brighton’s North Laines. Its underground location makes it ideal for events with a difference.

With exposed brickwork and iron beams, The Basement is a blank canvas with an edgy industrial feel.

Created in September 2003 through a % for Art scheme from Brighton & Hove City Council and the developer of The Argus Lofts, it was refurbished and extended in Spring 2007.  The Basement is a registered charity (number 04622154) offering support and development to Brighton's emerging artists. 

The Basement is fully accessible with three flexible areas plus an open plan reception and café area.

Situated on Kensington Street just off North Road in The North Laines. The Basement is less than 10 minutes walk from Brighton Station.
